Primary One 2022/23

Term One – August to October

In term one we got used to going to school and the routines of the school day. We made lots of new friends and focused on being kind to others. We learned about our rights and how we respect these at Castleview. We had our first stay and play. We had our first school trip to Gorgie Farm. We started Forest Fridays our outdoor learning sessions. We explored the trim trail in our PE experiences. In literacy we learned about rhyming words and focused holding our pencils correctly and recognising and writing our names. We explored the sounds a, t, p and n. In numeracy and mathematics we focused on identifying numerals and counting forwards and backwards within 20. We explored 2D shapes and measurement.

Term Two – October to December

In Term Two we continued to read and write our term one sounds, and we explored the sounds i, s, m, r, h, d and o. This helped us learn to identify, form and recognise words beginning with these sounds. We used our imaginations to create and act out stories. In numeracy and wider mathematics we learnt to order numbers correctly. We explored o’clock times on an analogue clock and discussed daily routines, months of the year and Seasons. We have been using directional and positional language to help us make mazes.

We welcomed our families into school for our Autumn activity sessions and Winter performance. We enjoyed our Christmas lunch, Christmas parties, and we even had a visit from Santa. We were lucky to visit Lyra Theatre for two shows – Ginger and Once upon a Snowstorm – which was really magical and loads of fun!
