You may have read Historic Scotland’s Guide to their properties. Castleview Primary Pupils are available to take you on a tour of historic Craigmillar Castle where Mary Queen of Scots once stayed. At Castleview we are committed to the spirit of a Curriculum for Excellence and this tour encourages our children to share the wonderful rich scottish heritage of the Craigmillar area. Pupils who have experienced our tour always say that they learn so much when other children are leading the learning.
If your class or group would like to receive a free tour of Craigmillar Castle by our trained Primary 7 Junior Tour Guides dressed in historical costumes then please read the Information attached below. If you would like to book a tour please call Castleview Primary who will confirm the date with you and then send you a booking form which should be completed and returned by email to Castleview. Due to Health and Safety issues, we are unable to take tours in the month of January. We look forward to seeing you very soon. You will be assured of a warm welcome.
For those unable to visit Craigmillar Castle in person we have provided a short PowerPoint to show you the areas and rooms of the castle that form part of the tour – please get in touch if you would like us to come to you to deliver the virtual tour. So far we have presented this at local churches, care homes, conferences and The Edinburgh and Scottish Learning Festivals and to the First Minister of Scotland. Our tour won best in category at The Edinburgh Achievement Awards and was runner up in the Scottish Education Awards.
Our former Headteacher Ms Lindsey Watt liaised with Historic Scotland and set the project up. Staff participate in the project and have historically accurate costumes. Here is Ms Watt in her beautiful dress!
Please find the booking form below as well as evaluations, the Primary 6 Craigmillar Heritage Trail Programme of Study and further information for visiting groups.
ALL VISITS MUST BE BOOKED THROUGH THE CASTLE BEFORE BOOKING THE JUNIOR TOUR GUIDES.
